Alan Gearing

Mr. Gearing joined Castlelake in 2017 and is Partner, North American Commercial Real Estate. In this role, he focuses on guiding the investment team and executing Castlelake’s investment strategy across commercial real estate credit and value-oriented equity strategies.

Mr. Gearing became a partner of the firm in 2020 and is a member of Castlelake’s Executive Committee. During his tenure at Castlelake, he has helped lead the firm’s North American real assets investment activities, with a focus on real estate-backed direct lending, distressed debt and value-oriented equity investments. He has also played a leadership role in Castlelake’s origination platform strategy, working with senior leaders across the firm to help expand proprietary sourcing, strengthen platform oversight and support disciplined growth across asset-based private credit opportunities.

Prior to joining Castlelake, Mr. Gearing was president and founder of Gearing Capital Partners, a commercial real estate specialty finance company focused on direct lending and distressed debt across North America. Earlier in his career, he was a vice president at Secured Capital Corporation, where he was responsible for executing asset and portfolio financings, loan trading, and asset dispositions; and held roles at JP Morgan and Archon Group, a Goldman Sachs subsidiary.

Mr. Gearing received an M.B.A. from Cornell University and a B.B.A. in finance and real estate finance from Southern Methodist University. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and a board member of the Folsom Institute for Real Estate at the SMU Cox School of Business.
